More About Me

Tennis

I picked up tennis in 2019 and have been an enthusiastic amateur ever since. It's one of my favorite ways to unwind, and there is nothing quite as satisfying as landing a solid forehand. I am hoping to find more court opportunities in the Toronto area!

Cooking & Food

I love being adventurous in the kitchen. As an operations researcher, I naturally approach cooking as a multi-objective optimization problem. I try to balance nutrient and time constraints, schedule parallel tasks, and experiment with diverse cuisines and cooking techniques to find the Pareto frontier of effort and taste (like perfecting a weekly meal prep procedure, or cooking small servings of rice nicely). You can check out my ongoing recipe log of some interesting combinations. When not cooking, my husband and I enjoy exploring the vibrant Toronto restaurant scene.

Early Life

I grew up in Macheng (้บปๅŸŽ), a beautiful city in central China, famous for its azalea blossoms. I later attended Wuhan No. 2 High School, where my love for rigorous problem-solving was first ignited through Math Olympiad training, eventually leading me to my undergrad in math at USTC, then Berkeley, and now to UofT.

Rocky the Cat

Rocky brings countless small happy moments to our daily life. Rocky is genuinely funny, incredibly soft, and the most comforting presence to hug after a long day of work. While his exceptionally sweet temper is his best trait, Rocky also has a unique backstory. Born in February 2014 in Florida, he spent his early years as a working Ragdoll "cat dad" at a cattery in northern California. I adopted him in April 2021, shortly after his official retirement. Rocky is also quite the traveler, having moved with me from Berkeley to Phoenix, and finally settling here in Toronto. These days, he strictly optimizes his daily schedule for two objectives: maximizing snack intake and sleeping. You can find his pictures on @rocky.themittedragdoll.
